The amazing happened. The under rats became the over killers, when Lurkers completely removed DD from the pitch in the first half wrecking the proud undead team already before the game started. Amazingly the undeads recovered enough to force a tie out of the game, but for a moment it looked like Lurkers could have been the end of DD. Instead it was only the end for Lex Liche who had played in all DD’s matches since the beginning.
Before the match Lurkers had been busy and the ref had been bribed. Furthermore "TrnTrn" The Beast had been on a caffeine trip and was very jumpy and seemed somewhat frenzied. On top of that Lex Liche has been celebrating his MVP from last match and were still hung over (maybe why he got himself snuffed) and during that party Ra had showed off due to his new star status, and when taking two guys down in one block, he got himself arrested, and missed the match. (Hence DD began the match with only one mummy, something never seen before on DD).
But DD still seemed confident when they kicked off in front of almost 100.000 spectators, and came out blitzing. But the blitz ended in shock, when Sinistra Dextre tried to reach the ball, and fell over, pinching a nerve. He will miss next match, and may have trouble with the nerve later on.
Still DD managed to make it difficult for the rats, but when rookie gutter runner "Velocirippa" Gobeater took down Lex Liche one dice killing him so badly that Lex failed to regenerate, DD’s game plan fell to peaces. As Argos had already been thrown of for fouling a stun, DD had gone from 11 vs. 10 to 8 vs. 10 in no time. And with the rats outnumbering the undeads, they began making KOs. 4 KOs followed (S. Finxter was KOed in a foul, where the ref did nothing) and a late push out left only 3 DD playerd (a mummy and two zombies) when killer "Velocirippa" Gobeater scored for 0-1 at the end of the half.
After 6 turn (with the blitz) DD had tripped 5 times on go for its (4 times on double 1, 1 time after a double skull had stolen the RR), and one turn ended in a throw out (on a 6). 3 of DD’s players were removed due to these turnovers.
It looked bleak in the last turn of the first half as none of the 4 KOed undeads came back, and the high point of the half for DD, was that Erik made a completion on a touch back, to learn Guard after the match.
But before the second half began two KOed players came back in. But S. Finxter and Mad Max (who was KOed in a failed go for it…) never recovered in the next three tries.
So Lurkers kicked to 9 undead, with only 1 mummy, two Ghouls and zero Wights, and they still had all 10 players ready. But not for long! Cause Benno Brausekopf II SI (MNG) "Medusa" Darkgaze and Xorn made the revenge complete when he fouled "Mortis" Deadbite to death. The apo stayed off pitch, and soon Necromancer Kynde had raised him self another zombie: "Dead" Mortis.
Now with 9 vs. 8 DD finally took charge and in only 3 turns Mean Midget ties the game 1-1. As a KOed rat failed to recover, and with "Dead" Mortis on DD’s roster, it was suddenly 10 vs. 7 in the next drive. A perfect defence made it difficult for Lurkers, and "Tornado" ZoneRunner only made it right next to the EZ. Here Mean Midget took him down, but Enasni the Death Eater failed the pick-up. And then a great blitz by buzzing "TrnTrn" The Beast caused the ball to end in the EZ with only 1 DD TZ on it, and "Tornado" ZoneRunner dodged into the ball square and gripped the ball for 1-2.
With four turns to go, DD just had to settle for a tie, but by know they would be happy for that. And Mean Midget got the bal, and kept it safe, until the very last turn. In a desperate attempt to strip the ball from DD "Panic Attack" Lurker tried to dodge into 3 TZ, and he was tackled so hard that the apo had to come out and save his life. And then it was easy for Mean Midget to score for 2-2.
In the end only 7 rats were not enough to give "Tornado" ZoneRunner a one turn chance and the game ended in a tie.
For his 2 TDs Mean Midget became elected MVP and obtained sure hands. The MVP for the rats went to "Medusa" Darkgaze who took the first injury on Lurkers today, but for Lurkers the match belonged to rookie "Velocirippa" Gobeater, who added a completion to his TD and KILL, so he is no longer a rookie!
The fans did not like the “defeat” of DD and some of them left, but they did not go to Lurkers. The money did, however, as DD earned zip vs. 40 k to the rats.
It was a weird match where DD was subject to the same kind of punishment everyone would have expected them to deliver to the rats. But when the players keeps falling over their own feet, injuring them selves, then anything can happen. Lurkers just have to be a little disappointed (beneath the relief of only receiving two bad injuries), that they did not manage to take the win, from 10 vs. 3 players and 1 up in TDs!
