Two of the top teams faced each other for the second time this season in the quarter finals. In their very first match of the season they faced each other in the cross over for a tie, and then both went on to win their groups. But they still had to find a winner and the looser would have the displeasure of having played both the first and last match against the other.
Dark side of the Moon was just a tat higher rated than Borc Lockers but not enough for any inducements, so it was down to the 13 elfs vs. 14 orcs, each teams having the same amount of staff and RR! Also each team brought in 20.000 spectators. A very very even match!
The elves choose to receive and while the ball came down a precise throw of a rock from one of their fans hit the well-guarded Dolf Ryrbye right between the eyes BH him before the first turn. As he was the only blitzer with tackle and the only one to match the speed of the elves it was a shock for the coach.
Luckily the apo could fix him up, and after BL forced a two turn TD by runner Mike Collins II he was back on the pitch.
BL’s thrower Noels Trielsen caught the kick and was soon caged. Valentina Tereshkova piled on an Orc, but that was punished when Fichael Malkesgaard fouled her to death. Luckily for the elves their apo saved her so she could get back later. But that was the apos gone.
Early on Korbjørn Thaels got the ball, and when there was a turn left he ran around a group of elves and pushed it all he could for the TD for 1-1.
In the last turn of the half Valentina Tereshkova, back on the pitch again, piled on Jemming Flørgensen BHing him! Then the troll tried to hurl gobo Neen Stielsen down the pitch, as the runner had fumbled a pass, and the ball was in actual scoring reach. But instead the troll also fumbled and the gobo crashed into a heap at his feet – BH due to his stunty nature!
And then BL received for 2nd half with just 11 players ready – so the other gobo Gåre Kyldenløve had to take his place on the pitch. Once more the ball was caught by a kick-off returning Noels Trielsen and he was well caged. And then BL began to remove elves. First it was Korbjørn Thaels who continued his great match with a kill on Edgar Mitchell. And soon thereafter Sulrik Vendsen piled on Alan Shepard taking his breath away – quite literate! That was three kills in three attempts! That makes it 5 kills in 5 casualties between these two teams this season vs. 0 kills in 7 casualties by the elves.
With also KO on agile leaper James Lowell and a few more – amongst them another foul on Witch Valentina Tereshkova – which was spotted by the ref, so Hens Jansen had to leave the pitch with her - there were not much left to fight with for the elves. Not even with Valentina Tereshkova managing another piling on BH on her worst enemy Dolf Ryrbye who thus managed to become BH twice this match! That was why she was ready to be fouled KO the next turn!
In the end only desperate measures was left and in his second attempt to stop the TD Thomas Stafford actually managed to get into the cage to blitz the thrower Noels Trielsen. But although they were both equally stronger than normal players, the troll next to the thrower made it very difficult to floor the ball carrier, and in the end the elf only managed a push. Next turn the thrower scored the TD just before the whistle: 1-2.
Since no miracle occurred the few elves left had no chance of tying the match and the Orcs became the winner of the teams two matches, and went on to the semifinals.
Hasper Cansen earned his 2nd MVP in short succession, as he was also awarded a price MVP after BL finished first in their group – that MVP gave him the guard skill he used so much this match! Winning their group was only possible because Dark side of the Moon won their last cross over against season favorite Scum of the Earth (who was also send out of the quarterfinals).
The other MVP went to the elf who was the only one to make heroic attempts to stop the Orcs: Thomas Stafford -who thus learned a new skill, most likely leap or dodge…
