The Zola orcs and the undead from DD met for the 5th time in just 6 seasons. For the third season in a row this was their final match before the play-off, but only the first time did the result matter.
But these two teams have no love for each other, and even though they could have tried to avoid injury by playing it safe this was out of the question. The fans also new this and in the extreme heat a season record crowd of 117 k had shown up to see the match.
DD was lucky enough that the super star from Zola Zepelin had been in a bar brawl the night before, and spend the match in the detention, and top ghoul Enasni the Death Eater had decided to play like an iron man the whole match. And when Ramses the 5th was ready once again (7th straight match even with his niggling injury) it seemed like an equal match.
But when Zola received they quickly began grinding DD to the ground. After five turns 5 DD players were in the KO box. First then did Ramses the 5th hit back, but in doing so he drew the first blood, when he killed agile Micksy Vicksy. The apotech managed to save him though, and then Zola continued making one more KO and then their first casualty came when Pantzer BH Erik who failed to regenerate. Only 4 DD players where on pitch (including the two mummies) when Guntermann II scored for 1-0.
For a second there he was contemplating not scoring, so DD wouldn’t get two turns to get players back. But it would have been in vain as 5 out of the 6 KOed players came right back in, and after the last turn of the match, in which Ra inflicted a niggling on Messer Junior II, the last KO Argos came back for second half. (Ra became a super star on that account and is now also good at guarding.)
Due to the extreme heat, a couple of DD zombies collapsed and was not ready for 2nd half, but in spite of this DD managed to field 11 players as did the orcs. And then DD’s fans once more did their worst when they took out the incompetent ref.
With him out of the way, Argos came in handy, and already in turn 1 he fouled the troll Dumbwhaat BH, after Ra had blitzed him down next to DD’s LoS. Zola tried to foul back, but before they obtained better than a KO, Argos managed to get two fouls in on TD scorer Guntermann II and finally he managed to kill him! The soulless body was immediately raised onto DD as zombie Guntermann II the 2nd. The kill was instantly revenged when Pantzer blitzed Argos down and killed him, but the dirty skeleton managed to regenerate, but now DD had no DP on the pitch. And when Zola fouled back and Spidermann BH Hoonaz reanimated who failed to regenerate it could have spelled problems for DD, but then the replacement ref, showed he was only afraid of DD’s fans, and threw out the fouler along with his arguing head coach!
This meant that DD had the chance of getting one up on dirty players, and with the orcs running short on reserves, Mean 'n' Green ran in for a quick TD to tie the game 1-1. He thus learned to jump up.
DD now had a decent chance of winning. Especially since the heat took out a single orc, leaving them with only 8 for the last drive. But when two ghouls, including iron man Enasni the Death Eater also collapsed, and Mr. Stone Cold failed to come back from a KO, DD only had two AG 3 players (and 10 in total) for the last drive. One of these were Guntermann II the 2nd who got up on the LoS much to the consternation of his former team-mates. :D
Soon it was obvious that DD just had to settle for a tie, and when the gobo Goboliath managed to run down pitch and caught a pass from Micksy Vicksy before the last turn, the orcs could have taken the win.. But Benno Brausekopf II caught up with the little guy, knocked him down, and the ball was free. Argos then took his final foul KOing Nouvello. And finally Mean 'n' Green managed to grip the ball and pass it almost out of reach.
The match could have ended there on a happy note for DD who avoided the loss, as Zola did not want to risk Pantzer who had to make 4 dodges, pushing it all he could and then making a short pass… But as a last act of the match, Micksy Vicksy who had been healed by the apoth when he was killed, decided he should take one more try at getting revenge against Argos. And slam the skeleton lay divided on the ground next to the sideline, and before anyone new what happened, some fans from the crowd, had snatched his legs, and got away with them. This of course removed any hope of regenerating the old skeleton, and thus it became his last match for DD after having played 59 matches straight never missing a single match! Zola of course collected the 30 k bounty. And then went home to celebrate their revenge. 1-1!
The record gate gave 40 vs. 60 k in treasury and the fans were content with the match and stayed with their teams. The dead orc Guntermann II got the MVP post hum for his TD, and "Dead" Mortis got the one for DD for standing up to all the strong orcs on the LoS.
So this concluded and indifferent match between these two monster teams, which in spite of this indifference became the most violent of the five they have played so far…
