Rex was formerly known as ”Two” which was the number of times you would have to explain things to him before giving op, the number of servings he would eat and the only understandable word he would utter. After he ate the nightwardens dober, he somehow figured out that since he was now sharing his body with a being far more intelligent than him, it would be most proper if they used the dogs name. Due to this unique reasonning he is likely to change his name to “Ref” or “Elf” one of these days.
