Young MacNelson was born into a poor family in downtown Dundee. His father – a shiftless lay-about – only took an interest in beating his wife and watching wrestling on the television. His 4 sons were all named after a
wrestling hold. Unlike his brother, the
Full Nelson – who became a viscount – young MacNelson (also known as the Half Nelson) followed in his father’s footsteps. He would frequent prostitutes whenever his financial means allowed him to do so. This meant that one could measure his varying income by the number of his visits to the red light district. This new measuring unit for income was dubbed the “hoe ratio”, which subsequently became Half Nelson’s calling name. When his eldest brother was killed by a sharpshooter following a
slight skirmish between some boats trying to moor at the same spot at the local marina, and his other older brother (the Three-Quarter Nelson) was imprisoned for life for public indecency, MacNelson suddenly became the head of the family. He tried to live up to the legacy of his elder siblings, and he almost succeeded. Like his brother who was awarded the
Order of the Bath, MacNelson was ordered to take a bath before entering a public building due to his dubious personal hygiene. Then he died.
