In a feeble attempt to strengthen his team by employing outsiders, the Coward coach decided to employ John MacMoore despite the fact, that he is so far the only player of the team to have been born outside of Scotland. The Clan MacMoore of Dumfries stems from imposturous immigrants who started to sport kilts in the 17th century. Originally the clan was a conglomerate clan known as the MacMoore-and-Less – an obvious pun on the purely Scottish clan
MacNight-and-Day which ended up as regents of some
far away 3rd World Country. But later, the clan MacLess split out and claimed land for themselves in Galloway. Young John is named after
his only famous relative, who – to add injury to insult – played the role as the main antagonist of fellow teammate (and real Scotsman)
Jean-de-Dieu MacSoult. He died of obesity in a
spa vacation in Spain. But these days, one cannot be too picky, I suppose. Some will take the high road, and some will take the low road (and I’ll be in Scotland before ye). But let us hope that this incident will not start a trend of employing foreigners that will eventually replace famous such truly Scottish families as the MacGhadaffies and MacKesselrings on the Coward team.
