Finally after a drought Deadly Doom got back in the habit of making casualties as they removed the rats from the pitch, and in this way opened up for a 3-1 victory. It was, however, never a sure victory until the last turn TD for 3-1, as a tie was possible until that TD sealed the deal, and thus made DD winner of group C.
The match was mainly seen as “training of the troops” for DD, who was already ensured a place in the play-offs, but for Daggers it was an important match, and they had trained very intensly gaining an exra re-roll for the match. If they could manage a win, then a loss for Zhatan's Disciples might result in a surprise play-off spot for the Daggers!
All niggling players (first niggling roll ever for DD) was ready for the match, as DD kicked off, using a perfect defence. This surprised the rats, and they felt forced to take a chance to make a long pass, and although El Rata Fantastico is one of the best throwers of the season, he managed to pass it into the crowd, and it was DD’s fans who got it, and they threw it straight into the midst of lots of DD players.
So already in turn 1 of DD’s kicking, they had the ball in a cage on their own pitch. However, the rats attacked the cage with all their might, and La Chubacabre BH Geleb Reanimated, an action he was to regret later… In turn 3 a one dice block on blodger Snufitt Wice made him fall over with the ball, who was then caught by assisting thrower El Rata Fantastico. A little setup for the rats, came later that turn when La rata del Dolor tried to dodge away from a mummy and in the process damaged his back and got a niggling.
However, even a brilliant chain of moves that allowed Eata Corpus to subsequently push out Con Julio for a crowd KO, could not prevent El Rata Fantastico from dodging away and passing to Don Pablo Montoia who made the first TD, and Daggers had the lead 0-1 after turn 4. Don Pablo Montoia got side step from that.
Both teams were full again as Geleb Reanimated regenerated and the KOed runner woke up before Daggers kicked off. As usual DDs fans disliked the ref, and gave him a serious wedgy in the break. However, even though dirty player Argos took advantage of this 4 times, he only managed a single KO.
The ball ended up close to the LoS and on the side line making it difficult for DD, and the next three turns DD tried to shift sides two times, as La Chubacabre made another BH this time on Benno Brausekopf II, who, like the other BH zombie, also managed to regenerate after the drive.
Finally Eata Corpus could run the ball to within two paces of the end zone, and only one rat could reach him with his TZ. This was Güero Sin Fe and he actaully managed to do so, by dodging through a TZ and going for it twice, but he soon regreted that. Cause Lex Liche ran in to assist, as Eata Corpus took a blitz action and began it by blocking and killing Güero Sin Fe, who was luckily saved by the apotech, but the rats could now do nothing as Eata Corpus continued his blitz move to tie the game 1-1 after first half.
The rats were still 11 on pitch, but shaken enough to kick the ball so bad, that it resulted in a touch back, given to The Green Ghost. A few KOed rats later, Ra finally made his first casualty as he BH Asesino, and in this way he learned block.
In the same turn, Ramses the 5th managed to dodge into a TZ on a 6 with his stand firm as assurance. This gave The Green Ghost a chance to use him as a wall, in a cage on the side line. When the rat ogre La Chubacabre was then again played first (as in the good old wild animal days ;) ), he rolled the obligatory double skull, and got his hand smashed by Geleb Reanimated who thus got a revenge, only made possible by him regenerating the BH inflicted on him in the first half.
As the rats basically lost their turn, it was now easy for The Green Ghost to score for 2-1, and he increased his agility on that acount.
Another perfect DD defence, almost made the Dagger’s coach cry, but even with only 9 rats left on pitch (and no St 3+ rats with block left on pitch) they still managed to pass the ball to Don Speedo who then ran down DD’s pitch, but when he pushed it the second time, he fell, and the re-roll was already spend on a two dice againt block on Ra.
After a lot of blocks in which amongst other Bram Stoker BH Jesus, then Eata Corpus pushed it twice to get the ball and pass it to Snufitt Wice. The ball carrier was then attacked by a couple of gutter runners, but they failed to get him down, and both Ghouls ran up the pitch, and the ball was handed back to Eata Corpus, with Bram Stoker standing ready for next turn within scoring reach.
But it was not over yet, as Pablo dodged and with one dice knocked blodger Eata Corpus over, making a casualty on him, and in doing so he learned how to block… It was some long seconds for Necromancer Kynde before the dice came up on 1, and it was only a BH, so the 20k bounty would not be paid out this time… The ball ended up in two DD TZ, and when the first Gutter Runner tried to dodge he was tackled by Lex Liche.
In DD’s last turn the match was finally decided as Snufitt Wice was blitzed free from TZs, and then picked up the ball, and pushed it once to hand it of to Bram Stoker who finished a perfect match for DD by also pushing it once to score DDs third TD for 3-1. (Ending the half with 3 of 4 re-rolls left).
A futile attempt to make a one turner was cripled by the rain that started pouring down, but already the pass was fumbled even though a touch back had helped avoid the difficult pick-up.
Conan was for no reason voted MVP on DD, but for that he learned to be a dirty player. On Daggers, Don Speedo was too rookie to learn anything from the MVP that he earned from his brave but failed attempt to tie the game in second half.
DD earned 40k, Daggers only 20k.
For the third match in a row DD has increased their hordes of fans (to 13), although they did not steal any of the Daggers fans.
With a situation where only Daggers had anything to win, the result was not so certain from the beginning. But in the end the match ended as expected, with DDs fifth win in a row, as they now also win Group C.
